New battery doubles battery life

British media said that a new type of battery with twice the power of today's lithium-ion batteries will soon be installed in smart phones next year to meet the world.

According to the British "Daily Telegraph" website reported on August 18, "metal lithium" technology is an engineering breakthrough, the battery's ion - the number of particles stored in battery power - is twice the amount of lithium-ion products.

This means that manufacturers can maintain their capacity while reducing the size of cell phone batteries, or to keep the battery size unchanged and double the battery life.

Smartphone and laptop manufacturers have been trying to extend the battery life of their products, but this effort has been hindered by the chemical restrictions of lithium-ion technology. In recent years, although microchip technology has made great progress, there has been no new breakthrough in lithium ion technology.

The new battery was developed by Solid Energy Systems, a company founded by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The company plans to introduce new batteries for smartphones and wearable devices next year, and will launch new batteries for electric vehicles the following year.

In a typical lithium-ion battery, ions flow from a negatively charged graphite cathode to a positively-charged anode through a solution called an electrolyte, and electrons carried by the ions are fed through a circuit to power devices such as mobile phones.

Although graphite proved to be the best and most reliable material for cathodes manufactured to date, the amount of ions it carries is limited. Researchers have been working to replace graphite with metallic lithium foils that can carry more ions. However, lithium foil often reacts badly with the electrolyte, causing it to overheat, cause a fire, and quickly lose capacity.

Solid Energy Systems has developed a hybrid electrolyte solution that does not adversely react when exposed to metallic lithium foil, making it as safe and reliable as the batteries we use every day.

The new battery can not only greatly extend the life time of the mobile phone and achieve a charge of two days or more, but also double the mileage of the electric vehicle, and alleviate the "mileage anxiety" problem that many electric vehicle owners have headaches.
