Solar cells can also generate electricity on rainy days

Recently, the team of professor Tang Qun of China Ocean University’s Institute of Materials Science and Engineering and the team of Professor Yang Peizhi of Yunnan Normal University jointly published a paper on the latest German scientific journal “Applied Chemistry” to explain the working principle of solar cells that can generate electricity in rainy days.
“Solar cells have low power generation efficiency in the dark environment, or even do not generate electricity. This has been a problem that cannot be solved. Over the past decade, the international community has invested a lot of manpower, material resources, and financial resources in its research. However, there has been no significant improvement.” Tang Qun Committee Say.
The performance of graphene developed by different methods is different, and the light transmittance of graphene is not 100%, so that the efficiency of the battery in normal lighting is lower than that in a battery without graphene, which is not economical in practical applications.
After comparison of multiple schemes, the researchers used graphene developed by Yang Peizhi team to complete experiments on the assembly of flexible solar cells by hot-press technology. The hot-press method is a commonly used technique and is under the condition of heating. Filming was performed. However, the reasonable coupling of graphene films and solar cells is still a subject that needs exploration and innovation. Therefore, in the experiment, the researchers used a certain concentration of sodium chloride solution to simulate rain. The solar cell achieved a voltage of approximately 100 microvolts/drop and a current output of 0.5 microamps/drop and a photoelectric conversion efficiency of 6.53%. Solar cells can also generate electricity on rainy days.
Talking about the industrialization of rain-powered solar cells, the Tang Qun Committee said that there is still a long way to go from the lab to the factory, but he remains optimistic about the prospects for the application of the project. This technology can be useful in areas with abundant rainfall but insufficient solar energy resources, acid rain-prone areas, and island reef electricity and sea navigation.
Focusing on the longer-term future, Tang Qun committee said: “The rainy day power generation of solar cells is not the ultimate goal, and the development of 'all-weather solar cells' is the ultimate ideal. The future of solar cells is expected to be in any weather conditions, including daytime, night, overcast, rain, fog, You can also generate electricity when you wait."
