There are many synthetic methods for synthetic diamond, and there are only a few methods for chemical vapor deposition (CVD) diamond films. What I am using now is DC plasma jet chemical vapor deposition (DC-PJCVD) technology. In the early 1990s, this technology was rarely tried in China. In 1993, Dr. Li Huiqi from Beijing University of Science and Technology learned the advantages of plasma technology through the advertisement of plasma cutting machine. The successful development of the plasma torch is the key to the equipment. "A plasma torch" obtained the national invention patent certificate in 1998. In addition, the gas circulation of the furnace body is a major innovation, which greatly saves the gas consumption; it is also original in how to achieve gas balance. Compared with foreign similar products, the device is the most simplified and practical. On August 25, 1994, the “Diamond Film Preparation Key Equipment†project demonstration meeting was held in Beijing. May 6th, 1995 was the day when the “863†project project expert group came to the inspection and acceptance. The accident occurred, and the device failed before the day before, and the plasma torch could not be discharged. Anxious. All the researchers searched for the cause overnight, until the daylight was finally confirmed because the gas path was blocked by oil, and the fault was finally eliminated. At this time, only 3 hours left before the expert group arrived at the scene. Everything else went well and the experts were very satisfied. In this way, the "863" project - "Development of key equipment for diamond preparation" was undertaken by the Laser Research Institute of Hebei Academy of Sciences. At that time, it became the first unit in Hebei Province to undertake the "863" project in China. After receiving the support of the "863" plan, all the mobilization, grouping and tackling, began to develop a film-making equipment with a power of 100KW, and it took half a year to successfully prepare a diamond film with a diameter of 100mm.
On January 30, 2006, six academicians including Lin Lanying, Shi Changxu and Jiang Minhua came to the site to organize acceptance. By looking at the preparation process, diamond film products, viewing photos and videos, the expert committee gave a high evaluation: "The successful development of high-power DC plasma jet CVD equipment has made us the third company after the two companies in the United States. A unit that independently designs and manufactures similar equipment. It not only provides an alternative industrial preparation technology for diamond film tools and heat sink applications, but also lays the foundation for future optical applications."
By undertaking the "863" project, let us stand on the high ground of scientific research, enter the international advanced ranks, and be at the domestic leading level. Since undertaking the "863" program, the diamond project has received more than 600 million yuan in funding from the state, the province and the Academy of Sciences. The project and its related projects have won six provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological progress awards, including the first prize of Hebei Province Science and Technology Progress Award in 1997.
Second, perseverance, hard work, and embark on the road to industrialization
There is no smooth road to scientific research, and the industry is more difficult. The idea of ​​industrialization was mentioned in the cooperation agreement signed with the North University of Science and Technology in the summer of 1996. After winning the first prize of the Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award in 1997, it will be considered for concrete implementation. The idea at the time was to achieve two industrializations: first, the industrialization of equipment; second, the industrialization of diamond film products.
In 1999, the first batch of diamond film products began to be introduced to the market, first targeting the application on the wire drawing die. At that time, the application of Hebei Hehuang area was relatively concentrated, and the researchers ran their own rivers and looked for the market. Finally, there was a sporadic trial, but there was a lot of returns near the Spring Festival. The quality of the wire is poor and the surface is not smooth: there is a problem with the quality of the product. After analysis, this is caused by the insufficient density of the diamond film, the grain boundary is too large, and it is easy to drop the drill.
The house leaks are even rainy. In 2000, the Laser Research Institute of the Hebei Academy of Sciences was transformed into a technology-based enterprise. The transformation has brought us great difficulties. First of all, there is no funding for the business. We are faced with the pressure of self-sufficiency and self-reliance. We are transformed into enterprises, the people are floating, and the backbone is lost. The researchers who participated in the diamond project at the beginning, almost half of the retired and transferred from the retired years after the reorganization, the only three graduate students also abandoned at this time.
The product is not hard, the market is not open; the funds are gone; the brain drain is: the difficulties are heavy and the steps are difficult.
The host of the project was left behind, and some of the research backbones were left behind. They also faced various temptations and pressures. Years of hard work, many years of feelings, they have to live with the project, and share with the project, they are responsible for this project, to the Academy of Sciences, the laser station, responsible for this team. Although the team was hit hard, it was not disintegrated. The team that climbed from the hardship must be a responsible team. It must be a team that dares to take responsibility. It must be a team full of hope and confidence!
Through the sale of equipment, research funding, and subsidies for cutting machine revenues, the operation of scientific research and development has been maintained, and the team has gradually been brought out of the difficult swamp. Film-making equipment is mainly sold to universities or research institutes for research. Although the risk of potential market competition is not great, it is also a must for survival. The research funds that have been won by various channels, although not very large, have played a significant role in the most difficult years. The plasma research laboratory started with an air plasma cutting machine. At that time, the efficiency of the cutting machine was not good, but it had to squeeze out part of the revenue for the development of the diamond project.
Resentment is not helpful. To be transformed into a company, the focus must be on the market. In the market, there have been setbacks. Although it is frustrating, the path of industrialization has become the only choice and the touchstone for testing the level of scientific research. First of all, according to the questions and opinions raised by customers, the problem of low density of diamond film is solved in a targeted manner, and the plasma torch is redesigned to improve the process.
In the second half of 2003, the application of wire drawing core was successful, and the effect was obviously better than that of diamond prepared by high temperature and high pressure. According to the division of its application fields, the following series of products are mainly provided: First, tool-grade diamond films mainly used for precision machining, such as dresser blanks, wear-resistant components, and tool blanks. Among them, the high-performance diamond blanks exported to foreign countries are used to manufacture high-precision dressing rollers, and precision grinding of various complex shaped grinding wheels for CNC automatic grinding machines. Second, the thermal grade diamond film used for heat dissipation, which is an excellent heat dissipation material for high power LEDs.
