Allegro MicroSystems, LLC introduces a new thermally enhanced, fully integrated, Hall-effect-based, high precision linear current sensor IC to complement its existing product portfolio. Allegro's ACS770 device consists of a low-skew precision linear Hall circuit with a copper current path close to the wafer surface. The current flowing through this current path creates a magnetic field that can be converted by the Hall IC to a proportional voltage output. The new device is mainly targeted at the automotive, industrial and renewable energy markets.
By positioning the magnetic signal close to the Hall sensor, device accuracy can be optimized. The accurate, proportional output voltage is provided by a stable chopper-type low-bias BiCMOS Hall IC that is factory programmed and calibrated for accuracy. The same ratio digital temperature compensation technology significantly improves IC accuracy and temperature stability without affecting the high-bandwidth operation of the analog output.
Allegro's proprietary integrated shielding technology provides high resistance to current conductor dV/dt signals and stray electric fields, ensuring low output voltage ripple and low offset drift in high-side, high-voltage applications. When the current through the main copper conduction path (from terminal 4 to terminal 5) used as a current sensing path rises, the output of the device has a positive slope (>VCC/2). The internal resistance of this current path is usually 100 μΩ , with low power loss. The thickness of the copper wire allows the device to operate at high overcurrent conditions. The current path terminals are electrically isolated from the signal leads (pins 1 to 3). In this way, the ACS770 sensor IC series can be used in applications that require electrical insulation but do not use optoelectronic insulators or other expensive insulation technologies.
The ACS770 series is a lead-free product. All pins are plated with 100% matte tin and no lead is present in the package. A large number of gauge lead frames are made of oxygen-free copper. The ACS770 is available in a 5-pin package (prefix CB).
