Japan's Toray Carbon Fiber Plant starts construction in South Korea

According to Korea’s “Korean Daily” report, on June 28, the Japanese chemical company TORAY held a groundbreaking ceremony for the carbon fiber plant in Gumi National Industrial Park in Gyeongbuk. This is the first carbon fiber factory established by a Japanese company in Korea.

Toray said that in the next 10 years, it will invest a total of 1.3 trillion won in the Gumi plant to become the largest carbon fiber production base in the world. Toray plans to increase the annual production capacity of Korean factories to 14,000 tons, which is more than twice that of Japanese factories.

Carbon fiber is a high-tech material that weighs only a quarter of steel, but its strength is more than 10 times. Mainly used for aircraft fuselage and wing, automobile body, fishing rod, golf club and so on.
