Scientists find a good way to extract methane from Arctic permafrost

According to foreign media reports, researchers from the Skoltech Institute for Hydrocarbon Recovery (CHR) in Russia and the Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh are looking for a way to extract methane from the Arctic permafrost This method will help reduce carbon dioxide emissions. By discharging high-temperature exhaust gas to industrial plants, the purpose of replacing methane with a large amount of carbon dioxide is achieved.

It is understood that the Arctic region of Russia is home to many new oil and gas fields, but the development of these oil and gas fields is no easy task. Not only are they located in remote, sparsely populated areas where the infrastructure is extremely scarce, but they also face the problem of having huge natural gas hydrate deposits-this makes conventional drilling quite difficult and may cause methane gas to be discharged if not handled properly In the local atmosphere.

However, natural gas hydrates are also a huge potential source of natural gas and can be used for industrial purposes. And according to the Skoltech team, it can be used as an exchange to remove methane while turning the permafrost into a carbon sink.

According to recent research, hot flue gas from power plants, metal refineries, and other heavy industries can be pumped into natural gas hydrate deposits. There is a reaction where methane is released and carbon dioxide replaces it to form new hydrates. Not only that, methane can also be used in a closed cycle, power industrial plants, recover flue gas to reduce carbon emissions, and at the same time release more methane for the plants.

"Our method not only helps extract methane, prevents its free release into the atmosphere, but also reduces carbon dioxide emissions. I would like to say that our method provides a double dividend in environmental safety." CHR chief research scientist Evgeny Chuvilin said .

Macor Ceramic Block

By using the mechanical and thermal properties of glass ceramics block such as high temperature resistance, thermal shock resistance, thermal expansion and other mechanical properties, it is possible to manufacture a variety of materials that meet the mechanical requirements. Using mica's machinability and orientation, it is possible to produce high-strength and machinable glass ceramics. As a mechanical mechanics material, glass ceramics can be widely used in pistons, rotating blades and cookware, and can also be used as structural materials for aircraft, rockets, and artificial satellites.
