On May 6, 2015, the second executive director (expansion) meeting of the 5th Superhard Materials Branch of China Machine Tool Industry Association was held in Qingdao, Shandong Province. In the current economic downturn pressure, the industry's operating situation is difficult, more than 130 representatives from super hard industry from all over the country participated in this meeting, which is the largest number of participants in similar conferences in recent years. Li Zhihong, senior consultant of China Superhard Materials Association and deputy director of the Technical Expert Committee, made a report on “Introduction to the Industry Economic Situation 2014” at the meeting. The report pointed out that in 2014 China's diamond production reached 16.8 billion carats and CBN production reached 570 million carats. The output of major products in the industry has risen steadily, the market competition is fierce, and the profit margin has generally declined. However, the import and export market is active, especially the continuous growth of exports, which provides a certain positive space for the development of the industry.

The report also pointed out that under the influence of the big situation, the super-hard materials industry has changed its long-term strong development momentum and received unprecedented development pressure. Like the national macro-economy, it has entered medium-speed development, nominal growth rate and even lower than GDP. The output of large enterprises increased their income and the profit rate decreased. The SME market and profit margins were severely squeezed, and it was difficult to maintain operations and even cut production and stop production. However, the enterprises with rapid and good transformation have sprung up everywhere, new products are constantly changing, and the situation is gratifying.

Subsequently, the conference invited a number of experts from the industry to give a special lecture.
