Xin Guobin said that in recent years, China’s new materials industry has developed rapidly in the “New Materials Industry Innovation and Development” project of “Innovation and Development of New Materials Industry”. During the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period, the total output value of new materials industry was from 2010. 0.65 trillion yuan increased to nearly 2 trillion yuan in 2015, an increase of more than 2 times, with an average annual growth rate of more than 24%, 15 percentage points higher than the world average. In 2016, it reached 2.65 trillion yuan, a growth rate of 35%. Xin Guobin said that while the scale of the industry has grown, the level of application of new materials in China has also increased. At present, the chemical new material support capacity has reached 63%, and the domestic market share of high-strength and high-toughness automotive steel and silicon steel sheet has reached more than 90%; advanced Semiconductor materials, new battery materials, rare earth functional materials and other fields have accelerated development, and high-performance steel materials The product structure of light alloy materials and engineering plastics has been continuously optimized, which has effectively supported the smooth implementation of major national projects such as high-speed railway, manned space flight, marine engineering and energy equipment. In addition, China's production capacity in the field of rare earth functional materials, advanced energy storage materials, Photovoltaic materials, silicones, superhard materials and other new materials is in the forefront of the world; in the frontier areas of metamaterials, superconducting materials, graphene, liquid metal, etc. The development of new materials has also made important progress; at present, 48 new materials-related bases have been built nationwide, and a number of leading enterprises in new materials are also emerging, and the endogenous power of industrial development has been significantly enhanced. However, Xin Guobin also pointed out that China's new materials industry still has a large gap compared with the world's advanced level, and there are shortcomings such as weak innovation capability, disconnected R&D and application, and lack of talent teams. During the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period, China will focus on breaking through a number of new material varieties, key process technologies and special equipment, and continuously enhance the international competitiveness of the new materials industry.
