General Motors showed media representatives that the company is developing a fuel cell electric vehicle platform called SURUS, which stands for “Silent Utility Rover Universal Superstructure.” It is a large, driverless car, similar in size to a container. General Motors believes that SURUS has a wide range of applications, such as mobile and emergency power generation equipment, for cargo transportation, and can also be used by the military. SURUS is powered by GM's newly developed hydrogen fuel cell system. From 2013 onwards, General Motors will collaborate with Honda on the development of hydrogen fuel cell technology and plan to commercialize it for the next five years, targeting commercial and military customers. In fact, SURUS is still the test platform for universal driverless projects without cockpits. Both SURUS shafts are maneuverable and each shaft is equipped with an electric motor. Although General Motors did not disclose detailed technical specifications, it stated that SURUS had stored enough H2 and had a range of more than 400 miles (643 kilometers). The fuel cell is also a mobile generator that can output high voltage direct current, alternating current, or 120 volt AC to charge the car's lithium-ion battery.

Previously General Motors developed the Chevrolet Colorado ZH2 hydrogen powered pickup truck, a concept car that the U.S. military is currently testing. Hydrogen cars are quiet when they are driving, and the fuel burns and releases potable water. The military values ​​these two advantages.

Like SURUS, it is a "skateboard" for installing fuel cells. It can be used in various automobiles, such as sports cars and pickup trucks. Under the guidance of Autonomy, eventually General Motors developed a demonstration vehicle HyWire. Like SURUS, HyWire also uses hydrogen fuel. Although Autonomy and HyWire have already appeared, they have not been converted into production vehicles. It may be because they are too advanced. SURUS may not be included in the plan, but General Motors has been developing fuel cells for 50 years, as GM executive Mark Reuss put it: "GM believes that all future electric vehicles will Become dominant...
