Counterfeit "zero formaldehyde" sheet? Furniture consumers should pay attention to identify

Recently, the author's investigation in major furniture markets revealed that there has been a wave of “counterfeiting marketing” in the furniture market, and even a trend of “false concept” marketing. A small number of traditional furniture businesses and wood-based panel industry are making waves in an attempt to convert ordinary furniture into ordinary products. The plate is marked with the concept of "zero formaldehyde", after which the finished furniture made of such plates is sold at a high price to consumers.

As we all know, the vast majority of common artificial board materials on the market, such as composite board, plywood, plywood, etc., are all bonded with urea formaldehyde resin using formaldehyde as a synthetic raw material. Due to the instability of chemical properties of urea-formaldehyde resins, as long as a urea-formaldehyde resin-based artificial board is used, urea-formaldehyde resins cannot be avoided from being naturally decomposed and produce formaldehyde during the use of the board. Therefore, it is impossible to achieve zero-formaldehyde.

What is more, some merchants who are good at “packaging” apply ammonia fumigation to inferior grades with poor environmental protection, or apply formaldehyde sealant on the surface so that the tested plates can get lower formaldehyde emission. As a result, the concept of “zero formaldehyde”, “healthy”, “environmental protection” and “green” was used as a concept. Compared with ordinary plates, this "specially processed" inferior plate has a greater harm to consumers. Because a lot of urea-formaldehyde resins are used for inferior boards, “special processing” only covers the free formaldehyde in the board for a short period of time, and the formaldehyde released from the long-term decomposition of boards is powerless. After the “masking period” has passed, formaldehyde will be released explosively.

Therefore, when consumers purchase furniture and choose plates, they need to understand relevant knowledge and avoid being deceived.

How many lies of "environmental protection" and "ecology" make a name for you!

Environmental protection and health are the trend of furniture consumption in recent years. Taking advantage of the "green", "environmental protection," "ecology," and other flags of all kinds, the various types of "certification," "qualification," and other genuine and difficult to distinguish the proof, a few operators often ignore the facts, to have no professional knowledge Ordinary consumers carry out false propaganda, such as: "Our cabinets are made of solid wood panels and are very environmentally friendly and absolutely free of formaldehyde."

In fact, the so-called "solid wood panels" in the market are not 100% monolithic logs, but blocky wood chips (such as large core boards), or wood chips (such as multilayer boards) that are glued together with adhesives such as urea-formaldehyde resins. They differ from particleboard and MDF only in the degree of comminution of the wood.

According to industry experts, the formaldehyde in the furniture panel is derived from the adhesive in the board, namely urea-formaldehyde resin. The raw material for the synthesis of urea formaldehyde resin is urea and formaldehyde. Urea-formaldehyde resins are widely used in wood-based panels because of their good adhesion and very low cost. But its biggest drawback is that it is easy to decompose. The urea-formaldehyde resin is continuously decomposed during the use of the sheet and becomes the source of formaldehyde release from the furniture.

At present, some of the higher-ranking boards adopt the method of adding a small amount of other glues or formaldehyde trapping agents to the urea-formaldehyde resin to reduce the use of urea-formaldehyde resins and achieve a higher environmental protection level. However, due to the negative influence of these additives on the bond strength, the addition ratio is also limited. On the other hand, as long as the urea-formaldehyde resin is still used in the sheet, the formaldehyde release still exists. At present, most of the domestic plates that claim "environmental protection" are only E1 plates.

So, is "zero formaldehyde" really a complete false propaganda?

Scarce but there is a bright eye to choose "zero formaldehyde"

Industry experts told the author that at present, only man-made panels manufactured using MDI can be called “zero-formaldehyde” plates in the true sense.

The strong bonding effect of MDI can completely replace urea formaldehyde resin. Moreover, MDI is an extremely stable polymer monomer that can produce a stable chemical combination with plant fibers to form 100% solids. Therefore, there is no defect that is easily decomposed like urea resin, and there is no problem of formaldehyde emission.

At present, there are two major brands of wood-based panels manufactured using MDI in the country. One is Wanhua Luzhou Incense Plate, which is produced by Wanhua Ecological Board Industry Co., Ltd., a subsidiary directly under the SASAC. It is mainly used for furniture manufacturing and decoration; the other is foreign capital. The company's OSB OSB oriented particleboard is mainly used for construction and packaging.

In addition to replacing urea formaldehyde with MDI, both companies chose straw fibers instead of wood fibers. In the use of performance can completely replace the wooden board, so it can be considered to be extremely beneficial to the human body and the society, "real" pure environmental protection products.

On the website of Wanhua Luzhou Incense Board, we see that the company’s advertising language is “a sheet that does not release formaldehyde” instead of “zero formaldehyde”. The person in charge of the company explained that this is because of the difference between "content" and "release" of formaldehyde. The traces of formaldehyde are contained in the material from natural living organisms, and the straw in Wanhua Mooden also contains a very small amount of natural formaldehyde. "Zero-formaldehyde" means for the musk board that the amount of release is zero. Therefore, the "plate that does not release formaldehyde" is a more rigorous statement.

He also introduced that "zero-formaldehyde" plates should have "undetected" certificates issued by state-level authoritative testing organizations, and the United States CARB NAF certificates. Consumers should be carefully identified during the purchase process. Don’t be fooled by the “flicker”.

Due to the problems of room volume, ventilation conditions and degree of decoration, the excessive use of artificial plates makes it easy to form excessive levels of formaldehyde in the living room environment, especially in bedrooms, children's rooms, etc., which is extremely harmful to the body. In severe cases, it may cause cancer, resulting in leukemia and uremia. , colon cancer, brain cancer and other diseases. This may also be the root reason why merchants are competing to promote "Zero Formaldehyde." However, consumers need to polish their eyes when buying, and beware of being deceived.
