Reporter: How did you get on the road of studying metallurgical materials?

Yu Ming: I liked science and engineering in middle school, especially interested in chemistry. I also worked as a representative of chemistry class, but when I talked about why I chose this major, there are actually some objective factors. I came out from the mountainous area of ​​Yongjia. I graduated from Peking University in 1958 and entered Peking University. At that time, only three people including me in Wenzhou were admitted to this university. It was a surprise for me. In my birthplace, Yongjia Yantou, I was the only university student in the local area. At that time, the idea was to pay more attention to such a school, so I chose the chemical metallurgy material, which I liked very much. Consider more.

Later, I have been focusing on this aspect of research. In fact, it is related to my personality. There are many shortcuts in mineral smelting that need to be overcome. Reporter: After graduation, you have been to the Changsha Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. How has your research been carried out? What is the most impressive thing about you?

Yu Ming: I graduated from Peking University in 1964. After accepting the distribution, I went to the Changsha Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. I remember that the first subject involved was “recovering rare metals in the wet zinc smelting process”. This is similar, such as recycling of metal gallium, tungsten, etc. At that time, the country was in the era of large-scale production, and many of these rare metals could be applied to national defense. If they were able to master, they would also create wealth for the country, but in the eyes of ordinary people, our The work is very boring and needs to be experimented and experimented.

What impressed me the most was the subject of "black tungsten concentrate to produce ammonium paratungstate" in 1984, which was the national "June 1" project. At that time, I was the leader of the research team. We needed to extract the required tungsten in an aqueous solution of tungsten oxide, but this step was always unsuccessful. The entire team was repeatedly checking the process before and after. Including temperature, humidity, extraction strength, etc., in order to overcome this difficulty, we grouped and continued to experiment, and finally found the problem, the diameter of the extraction machine pipe can be expanded by 2 cm.

The small details on this process dragged our entire project for a month, and I was under pressure at the time as the team leader, but I always believed in the words "There is no flat road in science, only the hard work along the steep The people who climbed the mountain road hoped to reach the glory of the glory." Although the failures were repeated, our entire team did not lose the scientific and rigorous style, and finally succeeded. In that year, the subject won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. It is a new extraction method pioneered by our country and is still in use today.

Reporter: You are out of the mountains. It is not easy to become an influential expert in the professional field. What do you think is the dilemma you have encountered so far?

Yu Ming: I think it is at the stage of studying. When I was in school, it was not excellent. My parents were all farming. My brothers and sisters at home were not literate. The economic conditions were not very good. I was still in Wenzhou near Wuma Street. When I was in school, I also had to work and study. I remember that the most clear thing was that I didn’t go home during the summer vacation. I had to dig the ditch that was used to build the tap water pipe to make money. For a while, my grades didn't go up, I almost gave up, but one of my teachers always encouraged me to read it before I persisted.

After entering Peking University, my university life is very monotonous. It is basically a three-point line of life in the dormitory, classroom, and canteen. All my thoughts are reading. Although there are national bursaries to guarantee tuition and basic food and clothing, but there is no extra money, so I only went home two years in college. I have been uncomfortable in the life in the north, because the climate is not accustomed to frequent colds. One of the three people who went to Peking University with me was that the body was not suitable for the lung disease and then dropped out of school. There was also a later enlistment, only I actually finished reading. Six years, so I still feel lucky when I say it. These experiences have made me overcome the difficulties I encountered at work, or the difficulties that I have to break through.

Reporter: You have been outside for so long, what is the most concerned about Wenzhou, have you thought about bringing your research results back to Wenzhou to support the industrial construction of your hometown?

Yu Ming: I always wanted to make my place of work close to my hometown, but unfortunately my professional and research topics have no basis in the local. I didn't have much time to return to Wenzhou. I was invited to participate in the World Wenzhou People's Congress in 2008, and then I went to several alloy factories in Yueqing to give guidance. But I feel that most of Wenzhou's local industries belong to light industry, no heavy industry. The foundation, and the interest in development is not great.

I have not been very motivated to make technical improvements in the investment of several alloy factories in Yueqing. In fact, I found that their existing products, such as molecular alloys combined with the superhard materials I studied, can be very good. Carbide, harder than ordinary stainless steel, is competitive for companies. Wenzhou people are open-minded and accept new things very quickly, but I feel that they have only paid attention to doing business in recent years and have not paid attention to the development of local industries. Therefore, I very much hope that Wenzhou leaders and the government can pay attention to this and adjust The local industrial structure, the development of high-tech industries, I need to define the technology if I need it.

Reporter: What do you think of your hometown now?

Yu Ming: The seafood and snacks in my hometown are now hot in Changsha. Although I have been living for so many years, I am still not used to it, so I usually buy food, cook rice, or like to eat Wenzhou shrimp and squid cake. Wait, every time you go back, you have to bring a big bag.
