Recently, the "Material Frontier" series of lectures was successfully held in the 3101 classroom of the Lotus Street Campus. Professor Li Zhengxin, the dean of the School of Materials, gave a wonderful report to the Guangyuan University of Materials, with the theme of "Diamond and Carbon Materials". Professor Li Zhengxin gave a detailed introduction to the development of diamond and carbon materials, the latest developments, basic laws, and practical applications. He said that China has developed rapidly since the successful development of synthetic diamonds in 1963. The production of synthetic diamonds has increased year by year. It has a wide range of applications, including cutting saw blades, PCD tools, oil and mining drill bits and wire drawing dies, especially in diamonds. The role of single crystal cutters is remarkable; he pointed out that the quality of diamonds and their products in China is currently in the middle and low grades, and further development is needed. Subsequently, he described the expertise in carbon materials, and believed that carbon materials have good electrical conductivity, lubricity, high thermal shock resistance, chemical stability, etc. Some carbon materials have stronger hardness than diamond, such as graphene. The material is the thinnest and hardest nano material, almost completely transparent, extraordinary conductivity, more than ten times the strength of steel and excellent light transmission, these carbon materials have attracted industry attention. Professor Li Zhengxin won the warm applause from the students with his rich professional knowledge and rigorous skill level. At the end of the lecture, he patiently answered the students' doubts about diamond and carbon materials.
The lecture gave students an insight into the frontiers of science and technology in diamonds and carbon materials, and stimulated students' interest in research in professional disciplines.
